CCTV Video Images Released Of 'Person Of Interest' In AK Tire Slashing Incident

Someone Cut Tires On Nearly 90 Airplanes On The Ramp At Merrill Field In Anchorage

The Anchorage Police Department has released images captured by closed-circuit television cameras that show a "person of interest" connected to the tire slashing incident which occurred at Merrill Field last month.

The Alaska Daily News reports that a statement released by police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said that the images showing the "person of interest" were found in a review of "hundreds of hours" of footage captured by the surveillance cameras on the field.

The vandalism to 87 airplanes parked on the ramp at Merrill Field caused an estimated $200,000 in damage to the aircraft. The tires are valued at $2,000 to $3,000 each, Castro said.

"The person shown in the images was on foot in Merrill Field around 1:20 a.m. on June 2, in the areas where the planes were vandalized," Castro wrote. "The person in the image is wearing dark clothing and had on a backpack that possibly has a reflector on the left side."

Castro declined to say whether the person in the video was seen actually slashing the tires. She said that detectives have reviewed about 7 hour of footage from each of the more than 55 cameras positioned around the airport.

A $1,000 reward is being offered by Anchorage Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest in the case.
