Location: Longview, TX Accident Number: CEN21LA033
Date & Time: October 7, 2020, 15:50 Local Registration: N790L
Aircraft: American Champion Aircraft 7ECA Injuries: 1 None
Flight Conducted Under:

On October 7, 2020, about 1550 central daylight time, an American Champion Aircraft model 7ECA, N790L, was substantially damaged when it was involved in a landing accident at the East Texas Regional Airport (GGG), Longview, Texas. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 flight.

According to the pilot, the maintenance flight was to perform an engine break-in on a newly installed overhauled engine. He reported that the 2-hour flight was uneventful until landing. During the landing roll the pilot attempted to use right rudder but the rudder pedal “fell forward” which prevented any effective right rudder or right brake control. The airplane continued to turn to the left, exited the paved runway, and continued into a ditch and collided with a runway sign.
