Somali Plane Hijacked?

Or Maybe It Was Kidnapped, Or Just Returned To Owner

A plane may have been hijacked in Somalia... or possibly it was a political kidnapping. Or maybe the owner simply wanted his plane back.

What is known is that an aircraft leaving the port city of Kismayu, bound for Mogadishu, had on board two senior Islamic leaders. The two Muslims are members of the Union of Islamic Courts, which is in conflict with the defacto government of Somalia.

Authorities believe they were on their way to negotiate with the government. The two sides are currently observing an uneasy truce.

The plane, type unknown, was diverted to neighboring Kenya. What makes this story confusing, is that it is believed the owner of the aircraft, who lives in Kenya, ordered the pilot to bring the aircraft home to Wilson airport near Nairobi, for reasons unknown.

The government of Kenya, so far, has not commented on the issue. It is not known when -- or if -- the two Muslim leaders will be returned to Somalia.
