New Tupolev 'Liner to Carry PAX in a Year

The latest Tupolev airliner, the TU-204-300 performed its maiden flight on Monday, the airplane designers and developers said to crowds assembled at the MAKS show.

"The plane took off from Ulyanovsk where it had been manufactured at the Aviastar-sp enterprise enroute to Zhukovsky where it will be on display at the MAKS-2003 airshow which opens on Tuesday," a company spokesman explained.

"The airplane was designed to modern and prospective requirements; it concludes the model range of the airliners manufactured by the Tupolev association," the company said in a release.

The TU-204-300 can carry between 120 and 170 passengers over a distance of over 5000nm. The design bureau has over 150 partners that contributed to the manufacture of the airplane with supplies of its on board systems and equipment.

The TU-204-300 airliner is due to complete certification next June.
