Aero-TV: Ramping Up -- The Eclipse 550 Is Delivering

The ‘Little Jet That Could’ Is Coming Back Strong

At Sun ‘n Fun 2014 ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell had the chance to visit an airplane that almost anybody would love to own.

He spoke with Mason Holland, the CEO of Eclipse Aerospace and got a look at the Eclipse 550 personal jet. It might be appropriate to call the Eclipse 550 “The little jet that could.” Designed from the ground up as a single-pilot personal-use jet, the Eclipse got off to a rough start because of corporate and management problems; early problems were not the fault of the airplane. Under the new management the airplane that has always been good is now better.

The Eclipse 550 is now in full production and airplanes are being delivered. This upgraded Eclipse now has anti-skid brakes and an avionics and instrument panel that ranks right in there with the airliners. While Jim asked about the airplane, he also got questions answered about the business end of Eclipse and the business of manufacturing and marketing personal jets.

Whether or not you’re looking to buy a personal jet, you’ll find this interview is a great way to learn about the Eclipse 550 and the industry that surrounds it. The Eclipse 550 would fit perfectly into anyone’s “I just won the lottery” bucket list.
