It's A Record! Nearly 13,000 People Visited AOPA Expo 2006

Attendance Tops Even 2002's Record Total

ANN was among the first to hear that attendance at this year's Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Expo in Palm Springs, CA had set a record, with over 12,000 people passing through the gates over the past three days. But AOPA President Phil Boyer kept the final numbers under his hat until Saturday night's closing banquet.

"12,973," Boyer told the packed crowd... before adding in his usual fashion, "I'll round that up to 13,000."

Even at the lower of those two numbers, that means over 1,200 additional people attended this year's conference in Palm Springs, CA compared to the previous record of 11,700 set back in 2002. Perhaps not by coincidence, that's also the last time the event was held in the California desert oasis.

We'll have to see if northeastern fall foilage will be as big a draw next year, as the blue skies and balmy temps were this time around. Next year's Expo will be held in Hartford, CT -- a new venue for AOPA. That event will run October 4-6.
