First Diamond Twins Delivered

One of GA's most eagerly awaited new birds is starting to leave the nest. Diamond Aircraft Industries delivered the first Two DA42 Twin Star aircraft to French customers Thursday. CEO Christian Dries handed over the keys to the aircraft.

The diesel-powered aircraft will cruise at about 180 knots, and come equipped with the Garmin G1000 system. The composite aircraft is positioned to compete with new and used light twins, and high performance singles. With the turbo-diesel engines, it looks to be an efficient and quick way to get around.

By May, Diamond expects to ramp up to a 17 airplane a month production rate. About 500 Twin Stars have been ordered world wide and the order book is seeing steady activity as the first new GA twin in recent memory starts showing up in owner's hands.

A new DA42 is already heading for Florida, where it is expected to be on display at Lakeland. ANN expects to conduct a full flight test shortly.
