First Full-Motion Device To Receive AATD Approval
Redbird Flight Simulations announced this week it has received
FAA certification for its FMX and SD flight simulators.
Both devices are now certified as Advanced Aviation Training
Devices, making the FMX the first full motion AATD that is priced
at less than $60,000. This certification means a pilot may now log
flight experience in a Redbird simulator toward new certifications
and instrument proficiency.
The low cost Redbird FMX features a proprietary motion base that
is clean, quiet, safe, surprisingly energy efficient and can be
setup in a standard classroom. The entire FMX, motion platform and
all, requires only a single 20 amp, 120 volt circuit and a standard
wall outlet. This revolutionary platform design coupled with
wrap-around visuals that provide greater than 200 degrees of
visibility, interchangeable cockpit configurations, compatibility
with scenario based training programs, and a price tag of less than
$60,000 makes the FMX an affordable and effective training device
for flight schools of all sizes.
Since its inception in 2005, it has been the goal of Redbird
Flight Simulations to change the way flight training is delivered
by providing cost effective training tools to general aviation
pilots and flight training operations. This means developing
training devices that are versatile enough to be used in all
aspects of training, IFR and VFR, at a price that fits well within
the budget of all flight schools. This certification enables
Redbird to achieve that goal.
"Now that the FMX is certified, we can start delivering against
our backlog of orders," said Charlie Gregoire, Redbird VP of Sales
and Marketing. "I'm not sure who is more excited about that, us or
our customers." The much anticipated FMX is now scheduled for
initial release later this year and is expected to be installed in
more than 50 locations by the end of 2009.
The Redbird FMX is available for demonstration at the Redbird
headquarters in Austin, Texas and can be seen at air-shows and
conferences around the country in the coming year.
