Spring's Almost Here... And The OSH Housing Rush Begins!

Oshkosh Convention And Visitors Bureau Begins EAA Housing Registration

It's that time, folks. Time to start making "specific" plans for your trip to Oshkosh this summer. Not just, "Yeah, I'm gonna go." But, "I better make sure we have a nice place to stay or my wife will have my hide!" No dilapidated RV for her this year.

We can say that because the city's Convention and Visitor's Bureau has put the call out for homeowners who live within 10 miles of convention grounds to help with housing some of the 800,000 visitors expected July 23 to 29 - oh, and make a few extras bucks while they're at it.

Homeowners can register through April 30 and for the first time, limited private housing information will be available on the Visitor's Bureau Web site for AirVenture guests to peruse at www.oshkoshcvb.org.

According to the AirVenture Web site, there are hundreds of private homes available to rent during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. They're an ideal solution for families, groups, and EAA chapters and are all within 10 miles of the EAA Convention site.

You can call the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau's housing hotline at 920-235-3007 to reserve an entire house, a room in someone's home, or a camper/RV on their property.

I can't finish this story without including a new trend in travel and vacation noted on the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau Web site: mancations, the guy's version of the girlfriends weekend. No, I'm not kidding. Check the Web site out for yourself.

According to urbandictionary.com, mancation is described as when normal (as opposed to "abnormal?") males engage in "guy" activities that involve sports, camping, gambling and most of all drinking amongst their all and only male friends.

So fear not, manly men. Oshkosh offers a full menu of testosterone-filled activities for your next mancation, including, dare I say, AirVenture? Want to see for yourself what the talk is all about? A Google search for "mancation" yields over 69,000 sites.

Again, I'm not kidding.
