ABX Air Certifies Wingspeed System For Use On B767s

Provides Voice Communications And Data Link Operations

Wilmington, OH-based cargo airline ABX Air was recently granted an FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Wingspeed Corporation’s XLLink Flight Information Architecture (XFIA). In late 2007, ABX Air selected Wingspeed’s XFIA system and XLLink network services to provide voice and data communications on 13 of their 767-200 SF charter aircraft.

Wingspeed’s XFIA is an open architecture, airborne network platform that can host a broad range of flight deck and cabin applications. Combined with Wingspeed’s XLLink global communications network, which can integrate multiple sub-networks such as VHF, the Iridium Satellite Network, and airport based WiFi, XFIA makes every aircraft a node on an airline’s computer network.

"XLLink connects continuously to our operations center with voice, text messaging and data transfer," said ABX Air’s Senior Director of Flight Operations Bob Boja. "Overall, the system improves our interface with our Dispatchers. We will be able to contact our aircraft crews more quickly and efficiently anywhere in the world."

Dave Borkowski, Wingspeed’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing, noted "ABX Air is a leader in the cargo airline business that understands the significant efficiencies gained by connecting each of their aircraft to their ground network. The ability to globally communicate, track, and electronically transfer data and documents via XFIA intrinsically lowers costs."
