First Day At Work: Bolen Takes Over NBAA

It's a new day at NBAA... after months of tough internal politics and more than a few public embarrassments, former GAMA Prez, Ed Bolen, takes over the helm of NBAA. Already finely attuned to the needs of the business aviation community through his highly regarded work at GAMA, Bolen's appointment is seen as a very positive move for NBAA, whose high profile resignations and political infighting have taken quite a toll on the once-moribund organization.

With a host of tricky challenges that make the association's role more critical than at any time in their history, Bolen's Presidency is likely to be a difficult one. However; industry support appears strong and Bolen is expected to be able to rally aid from an industry already familiar with his abilities, ethics, and work habits. ANN will keep you apprised of his progress...

Bolen Statement To NBAA Membership

"This morning it is my honor to assume the responsibilities of NBAA’s new president and chief executive officer. I’m grateful and humbled to have been selected by NBAA’s Board of Directors for this critical role and I am eager to work on your behalf.

Although I am just starting at NBAA, I am no stranger to business aviation, having served since 1996 as president and CEO of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). In that capacity, I have been deeply involved in all of the major general aviation issues and have developed strong working relationships with those Federal officials who shape our nation’s general aviation policies.

Because GAMA and NBAA have overlapping memberships (every GAMA member also is a member of NBAA) I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with both the staff and the Board of Directors of NBAA on many issues of common interest. I can’t imagine a better way to have prepared for my new job than through the experience gained in my old one.

The National Business Aviation Association has an exceptional and proud history, and an even greater potential going forward. Of course, potential is not realized without a tremendous amount of effort and there is no shortage of challenges ahead. Security, access to airports and airspace, environment pressures, and safety are among those that come to mind.

However, with your help, I am confident that we will rise to all challenges and we will make this association everything you want it to be, and everything it can be."
