Texas Aviation Hall Of Fame To Honor Tuskegee Airmen

Ceremony Scheduled For November 15

Scott Rozzell, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of CenterPoint Energy and Chairman of the 2008 Texas Aviation Hall of Fame Induction Gala, announced this week the Tuskegee Airmen will be honored as inductees into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame at this year's gala.

This highly anticipated black-tie event, scheduled for Saturday, November 15 at the Hilton Americas - Houston, benefits the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame and the Lone Star Flight Museum, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational museum located at Scholes Field in Galveston, TX.

During the 2008 Gala, the Hall of Fame induction ceremony will highlight the storied achievements of the Tuskegee Airmen. These outstanding African-American fighter pilots played a pivotal role in the aviation history of World War II and were instrumental in ending desegregation in the US military, thus initiating historic social change to achieve racial equality in America.

The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame honors the aviation heroes and pioneers of Texas. Since 1997, Texas aviation legends such as Howard Hughes, Wiley Post, Fleet Admiral Chester A. Nimitz, Bessie Coleman and Jeana Yeager, Astronauts Gene Cernan, Alan Bean and John Young, World War II Aviators President George H. W. Bush, Senator Lloyd Bentsen, Ben Love, John Bookout, Tom Landry and the Doolittle Raiders and Airline greats Gordon Bethune, Herb Kelleher and C. R. Smith have been recognized and inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Through interesting exhibits of personal artifacts, books, models, awards and memorabilia, each inductee's contribution to the history of flight is personalized for the 65,000 annual visitors to the museum.

The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame is committed to promoting the study of the science of aviation through educational outreach programs, acquiring and maintaining historically significant vintage aircraft and artifacts, honoring and recognizing Texas aviators who have made significant contribution to flight, increasing public awareness of the impact of aviation, and preserving Texas' aviation heritage for future generations. The museum is open daily, except Thanksgiving and Christmas, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
