In this video we visit with Scott Kempshall, the Vice President of Technology/Product Development at Aerosonic. Kempshall first responds to a question about the development of their OASIS standby instrument system. He points out that product development cannot be based on technology alone.
Their products are produced based on the market demand; in other words, what it is that the customer wants. From this point of view they then developed the product making it as flexible as possible for changes and modifications as the market changes.
When it comes to certification and testing, Kempshall talks about the importance of close coordination with the FAA and its DAR’s early-on in the development program. As Aerosonic develops the instrument, the people that will certify it are already in the process.
Because the OASIS standby instrument system is designed for use in a critical situation, Kempshall says they assure the quality is such that the pilots have no doubt that it will work correctly when they need it. This video provides a good inside look at how a company develops a product that assures customer satisfaction.
