US Airways A320 Makes Emergency Landing In Kentucky

Passengers Heard Engine 'Blow'

A US Airways flight enroute to Phoenix was forced to make an emergency landing in Louisville, KY Thursday night.

Airline spokesman Phil Gee says Flight 688, an Airbus A320 with 137 passengers and five crew members onboard, was en route to Phoenix from Newark, NJ, when it experienced an engine failure.

Passengers reported hearing a loud noise just before the pilot announced the emergency landing, according to The Associated Press.

"I was sitting by the engine and heard a poof noise," says Charlie Cuccinello. "Everybody looking around like, 'What was that?'"

Karen Finnegan said she heard a "boom."

"I was crying and freaking out, unfortunately. It was very scary."

The plane landed without incident, and passengers continued their respective journeys Friday morning.
