The unmanned Antares rocket built by Orbital Science Corporation lifted off from the Wallops Flight Facility at 6:22 PM last night.
Shortly after liftoff the rocket exploded resulting in the loss of the Cygnus cargo ship it was carrying to the International Space Station. USA Today has once again printed a story by Thomas Frank regarding the dangers of general aviation. This time he focused on post-crash fires, and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association has responded. GAMA President and CEO Pete Bunce issued an 800 word statement about USA Today’s sensationalistic article. An ATR72 on approach to Southend Airport near London came within 80 feet of colliding with a UAV, according to a report from the U.K.'s Airprox Board.
