Three Deals To Power 36 Airbus Airliners

Rolls-Royce picked up orders from three airlines on the first day of the Farnborough Air Show Monday.

Aeroflot, Russia's national airline, has ordered 24 Trent 700 engines to power 11 Airbus A330s. The order is worth $650 million at list prices and includes a TotalCare long term service agreement.
The first flight of Aeroflot's A330 in December 2008 was the debut of the Rolls-Royce Trent engine in Russia. Since it entered service 18 months ago, the Trent 700 has established an excellent track record with Aeroflot, providing outstanding levels of reliability, performance and efficiency.

Nick Devall, Executive Vice President - Civil Aerospace, Rolls-Royce said: "We are very pleased that Aeroflot has again put its trust in our technology. Every repeat order is a great vote of confidence in Rolls-Royce - its products, services and people. This announcement marks another important stage in our relationship with Aeroflot."

As the only engine specifically designed for the A330, the Trent 700 has won more than 70 per cent of new orders over the last three years. With more than 300 Trent 700-powered aircraft in service, the engine has accumulated over 13.3 million flying hours.

Somewhat in the same neighborhood, R-R has won a $130m share of an order from China Southern Airlines for V2500 engines to power 20 Airbus A320 aircraft. The order includes a long-term services agreement.

Deliveries of the aircraft, already on order, are scheduled to start in 2011. The China Southern airline group is one of the largest operators of the V2500, with 136 aircraft in service. The V2500 is produced by the International Aero Engines consortium (IAE) in which  Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder. IAE's other partners are Pratt & Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.

The 22,000 - 33,000lb thrust V2500 powers the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft as well as the A319 Corporate Jet. More than 5,500 V2500 engines are in service or on firm order worldwide.

Finally, the engine maker said Monday at the Farnborough Air Show that it has won an order from Air Transat for extended TotalCare services and Trent 700EP (Enhanced Performance) engine kits, which are designed to improve efficiency and environmental performance. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

The new seven year extended TotalCare services contract covers five Trent 700-powered Airbus A330s, four of which were covered under previous TotalCare arrangements. The new EP kits will be incorporated into the airline's Trent 700 engines over the next two years. Lewis Prebble, Rolls-Royce, Vice President of Customer Business, North America said: "We have a long term relationship with Air Transat and are delighted that they have become the latest customer to choose Trent 700EP technology. This will deliver positive economical and environmental performance benefits for our customer."

By transferring the latest Rolls-Royce technology to our A330s we are able to reduce fuel burn, minimize greenhouse gas emissions and our costs."

The Trent 700 EP kit will yield a reduction in fuel burn of more than one per cent and CO2 emissions levels of more than 800 tonnes per aircraft per year for Air Transat. To date, more than 150 Trent 700EP kits have been sold.
