FedEx, US Airways Planes Involved In Runway Incidents

Two runway incidents at two different airports Thursday... the first involving a FedEx Boeing 727 ran off the runway at Louisville International Airport.

The cargo flight with a crew of three on board was headed to the FedEx hub in Memphis when the accident occurred. A company spokesman says the aircraft apparently got off the ground, then settled back on the runway... eventually running off the end.

The FAA says the aircraft either experienced some sort of engine failure or the crew shut one of the engines down during the take-off roll. Nobody was hurt and the aircraft suffered minimal damage at most.

In the second incident... passengers aboard a US Airways Boeing 737 got quite a jolt when the plane's nosegear collapsed Thursday.

Flight 231 had pushed back from the gate at Pittsburgh International Airport...on its way to West Palm Beach, FL... when the nose gear simply folded up and the plane thumped down onto the tarmac.

One of the 73 passengers on board asked for medical assistance... otherwise, no one was hurt. The rest of the passengers were put on another plane to Florida.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating both incidents.
