Centurion Down At Long Beach Port Authority, Pilot OK

Was Able To Guide Aircraft To Relatively Empty Area

Authorities in Long Beach, California are still trying to figure out who was aboard a Cessna C210M Centurion that crash-landed at a port facility on Sunday, and where he came from.

Port workers pulled the pilot from the wreckage of the aircraft, which had broken into two pieces during the hard nose-first landing. The pilot had been able to steer the plane to a relatively empty area of the Pacific Container Terminal, said Long Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Reeb to the Los Angeles Times.

The wreckage came to rest near some steel containers, but there was relatively little damage on the ground and no one was hurt.

FAA records show the 210 (file photo of type, above) is registered to a private owner in Inglewood, CA.

Port officials say it was the first time a plane had ever gone down at the yard -- although it's a popular area with local GA pilots.
