Rented Cessna Damages Davenport Terminal Building

Pilot Says He Was Attempting To Hand-Prop The Airplane

A rented Cessna 172RG was damaged when it rolled unpiloted into the side of the terminal building at Davenport Municipal Airport in Iowa. The building took a pretty good hit as well.

The plane had been rented by Keven Kadlec, 39, of Eagle river, WI. The Quad City Times cites a Davenport police department news release indicating that Kadlec said was attempting to hand-prop the airplane about 2022 CST Saturday when the aircraft got away from him. It reportedly traveled about 200 feet with no one at the controls before it impacted the building, which was closed and empty at the time.

The news release indicates that there are as many as three inconsistencies between Kadlec's statements and the evidence at the scene.

The building was opened in 2010 at a cost of $3 million. It has a terminal area, as well as a 20,000 square foot hangar. There was no estimate of the damage to the airplane or the building.
