Bye Aerospace Unveils An Eagle That's Green

The "Silent Eagle" Is A Small, Electric UAV

You don't always expect that an eagle would be green, but Bye Aerospace says the "Silent Eagle" it is developing will not only be green, but quiet.

The small, electric UAV will be designed for land-based and maritime operations, and will initially be intended for commercial security applications. Flight endurance is projected to be over four hours, with an operational radius in excess of five miles. The all-electric Silent Eagle requires minimal auxiliary equipment for launch or recovery operations.

George Bye, CEO of Bye Aerospace, said the UAV will offer the operator a great deal of flexibility. "Initial flight test results have been encouraging," he said. "We expect the Silent Eagle will substantially enhanced deployment options, reduce costs and benefit mission effectiveness."

According to the Bye Aerospace website, the Silent Eagle will utilize stored electricity, as well as a thin layer of photovoltaic cells and other technologies designed to increase the aircraft's endurance as well as reduce its emissions.

Silent Eagle Concept Drawing

Bye Aerospace says in a news release that potential military applications include border patrol, visual and thermal reconnaissance and forward air control. In addition, potential civil applications include traffic control, pipeline and power line inspection, aerial law enforcement, forest fire detection and aerial photography.
