French Pilot OK After Ejecting From Fighter

Was Escorting Transport Plane

Little is known about the circumstances that led a French pilot to punch out of his Mirage F1 fighter Wednesday while on an escort mission... other than the best news, that the pilot is safe.

The Associated Press reports the reason for the incident is still unclear, and authorities have launched an inquiry into the possible cause of the crash.

The fighter was one of three Mirages escorting a KC-135 transport plane from Chad to France.

The pilot landed safely after ejecting over Nigeria... and his aircraft crashed in a remote area south of the city of Constantine.
