O'Hare Accord To Remain In Effect Through Spring

Flight Restrictions Were To Be Lifted At Month's End

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That seemed to be the logic behind an order to continue caps on the number of flight operations at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. The order, unveiled Thursday, means the restrictions will remain in place until at least next Spring.

As Aero-News reported in March, the voluntary cap on flights was imposed in August, 2004, with the idea that it would be reviewed every six months. This was the second time the cap had been extended.

Under the cap, flight operations at O'Hare have been reduced from an average 112/hour to 88/hour. So far, the FAA says, the cap has worked -- to some degree. On time arrivals this year are up to 77-percent from 70-percent a year ago.
