Lockwood Aviation Supply Forms School Aimed At LSA Community

Aero Technical Institute To Open This Month

Lockwood Aviation Supply, a US distributor for the Rotax series of engines, will soon form a new school aimed at the light sport and sport aviation community. Representatives with Lockwood told ANN Tuesday the Aero Technical Institute will begin operations in May of this year at the Lockwood facilities in Sebring, FL.

"We want to see more people enjoying the thrill of aviation, and when people are using powerplants that they can trust, they are more enthusiastic about sharing aviation experiences with friends and loved ones," said Phil Lockwood, founder of Lockwood Aviation Supply.

Lockwood added the mission of the Aero Technical Institute is to help make sport aviation and Light Sport flying safer and more affordable for a much larger portion of the US population.

The Aero Technical Institute aims to put information about the operation and maintenance of some of the more popular light aircraft engines into the hands of owners, and their maintainers –- information that they simply cannot get anywhere else.

Lockwood says that to accomplish this, the school will impart on the wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise of the Lockwood staff -- nearly 18 years of work with Rotax engines, and light and ultra-light aircraft.

While early courses will focus on Rotax engines, the school will expand to other maintenance and inspection courses for Light Sport aircraft.

Initial dates for the two-Day Rotax 9-Series schools are: May 25-26, June 10-11, June 29-30, and July 17-18. The first two-Day school for Rotax 2-strokes will be June 22-23. The cost of the classes is $395.

Information on signing up for classes is available at the FMI link below.
