San Marino Aircraft Registry Wins ICAO Award

Presented With Inaugural Council President Certificate

During the opening ceremonies of the 39th International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly the San Marino Aircraft Registry (SMAR), along with a number of other states, was awarded with an inaugural Council President Certificate. The certificate was presented by the President of the ICAO Council Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu and received by SMAR CAA Director General Ing. Marco Conti.

The Certificate recognizes the San Marino Aircraft Registry's significant progress in resolving safety oversight deficiencies and improving the effective implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices. These have been identified through the objective and transparent 2015 results determined through ICAO's Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme.

The effective implementation of ICAO's global Standards and Recommended Practices is considered a fundamental prerequisite today for establishing air transport's rapid global connectivity, and in turn the many socio-economic benefits it helps to realize.

"These awards, established by the ICAO Council in support of our ongoing No Country Left Behind initiative, have been developed in order to more publicly acknowledge and encourage States' commitments and progress in making our global network even safer than it is today," commented Council President Aliu.

San Marino Aircraft Registry President David Colindres added "I am delighted that ICAO has recognized the work of SMAR in achieving the highest and effective implementation of safety standards and practices. This is further verification of the hard work of our team and yet another example of how we continue to raise standards and deliver best practices to aircraft owners and operators."
