Two Unhurt In North Carolina PA-32R Accident

Lance Impacts Home On Roanoke Island

Two people are hospitalized after a Piper Lance impacted the second story of a house on Roanoke Island, NC Tuesday night.

WAVY-10 reports the single-engine aircraft was attempted to land at Dare County Regional Airport (MQI) in Manteo at around 6 pm, when the aircraft struck a pine tree. The aircraft subsequently came to rest on the second-story deck of a private home. The crash resulted in spilled fuel, but there was no fire.

Online tracking information from FlightAware.com shows the PA-32R-300 (similar to type shown below) was operating under an IFR flight plan. The aircraft departed Monroe Regional Airport (EQY) at approximately 4:20 pm, bound for Dare County.

Neither passenger in the aircraft appeared to be injured, though both were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. A witness to the accident told the station he heard the plane pass overhead, and said it sounded like its engine was having problems.

"The street is like a runway," added nearby resident Kim Winslow. "You can almost see the pilots as they fly by."
