Honeywell Green Jet Fuel To Power Transatlantic Biofuel Flight

Honeywell-Operated Gulfstream G-450 Departed Friday To Paris Air Show

Biofuels are definitely going to be at the forefront of the Paris Air Show. The same day Boeing announced that it was flying its 747-8 to Le Bourget on a 15% biofuel blend, Honeywell announced that it would fly its G-450 to the show on a 50/50 blend of traditional jet fuel and camelina-based fuel. Honeywell says it will be the first-ever trans-Atlantic flight powered by the biofuel blend.

This flight follows the initial approval from ASTM International for the use of aviation biofuel made from natural oils such as Honeywell Green Jet Fuel in commercial flight. The biofuel, as a 50/50 blend with petroleum-based jet fuel, meets all specifications for flight without any modifications to the aircraft or engine.

The business jet, piloted by Honeywell Chief Pilot Ron Weight, departed from Morristown Municipal Airport in Morristown, N.J., around 2000 EDT Friday, and was scheduled to arrive in Paris-Le Bourget Airport about seven hours after takeoff as the company prepares for the Paris Air Show.

Also on board were Jim Rekoske, vice president and general manager for Honeywell UOP's Renewable Energy and Chemicals business, can offer a unique perspective on the benefits of Green Jet Fuel, and Carl Esposito, vice president of strategy and product development for Honeywell Aerospace, can talk about how Honeywell's technological developments across its entire portfolio address airlines' need to drive down the cost of operations and achieve carbon-neutral industry growth.
