Friendly Competition To See Which Type Is Best Represented At September Event
The Lee Bottom Flying Field "Aviation Migration" ... "Where everyone goes at the end of the summer," has added a friendly competition to the event, schedule for September 18-20 at the southern Indiana airfield.
According to Lee Bottom Flying Field owner Rich Davis, the Champs vs Cubs Challenge will include three categories ... The pure-breeds, all variants and T-shirt sales.
The pure-breeds include any J-series Cub and 7-series Champ built through 1951, including any military version of either, such as the L-4 and L-16. Whichever group has the largest total on hand for the weekend wins that category.
The next category, due to the many variations of each breed, will include all fabric covered aircraft built by Aeronca and Piper plus any fabric covered variant built by other manufacturers. This group includes everything from C-2 Aeroncas to new Decathalons and early Cub models such as the J-2 up through and to include machines such as American Legend Cubs. Whichever group has the largest total on hand for the weekend wins this category also.
Finally, thanks to a Sporty’s Pilot Shop sponsorship, the competition will begin August 1st, 2015 and run through August 22, 2015. Support your favorite team, even if you can’t make the fly-in, by purchasing a “Team Champ” or “Team Cub” Champs vs Cubs t-shirt. The team with the most sales will win the first round of Champs vs Cubs. This gives everyone a chance to participate even if they don’t have a plane, and it comes with an added bonus. Wear the shirt to the fly-in and get in free.
