New Drone Policy Enacted In Raleigh, NC

Allows Flights From Most City Parks By Drones Under 400 Grams

If you live in or near Raleigh, NC and you got a new drone for a Christmas present, you should know that the city has implemented a new drone policy that has been posted on the city's website.

Under the policy, flights by drones weighing less than 400 grams is allowed at all city parks, but is prohibited at nature preserves, lakes, wetland centers and cemeteries, according to a report from Spectrum News.

Drones weighing more than 400 grams are limited to the parks from which they can operate. Those parks are specified in the posted policy. Drones weighing more than 15 pounds or capable of flying more than 70 mph require special city permission for operation.

The city has designated drone flight areas in the individual parks, which are indicated on the website. Drones may not be operated when the parks are not open, and operators may not harass wildlife or members of the public.

FAA restrictions also apply. Drone flights are prohibited over roadways or over people.
