Blue Angels Headline The Show
Fort Worth Navy week came to a close after the completion of an air performance from the Blue Angels at the Bell Helicopter Fort Worth Alliance Air Show in Fort Worth Sunday.
Sailors from littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), USS Constitution, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 1, the Ceremonial Guard Drill Team, the Navy's Parachute Demonstration Team The Leap Frogs, the Navy Research Laboratory and the Navy Office of Community Outreach came from all over the country and joined with local Sailors from Navy Recruiting District Dallas and Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base to inform Fort Worth area residents about the capabilities of their Navy.
"We're so excited to be here to perform for the thousands of incredible people here at the Fort Worth Alliance Air Show," said Lt. Joe Hontz, the Blue Angels public affairs officer. "We are so appreciative of the support they show the military."
Sailors volunteered at local Boys and Girls clubs and participated in three Habitat for Humanity builds, as well as visiting local schools and businesses to give the community a look into what the Navy has to offer the country even if not near the water.
"My dad is an Air Force veteran so I know what that means to him to have the military here today," said Greg Wagner, a local Fort Worth native speaking about the air show. "We don't have a really big presence here so it's really cool to see them out here so we are able to show our appreciation for what they do."
Navy weeks are designed to increase awareness of the Navy's mission and capabilities by showing Americans who live in cities that do not have a significant naval presence the resources and skills of the Navy. During the week sailors also have an opportunity to give back to the myriad communities that support them by providing manpower to local charitable outreach efforts.
