U.S. Aircraft Shoots Down Iranian Drone

Aircraft Was Armed And Said To Be Threatening Coalition Forces

For the second time in less than a month, a U.S. warplane has shot down an armed Iranian drone.

The most recent incident occurred over southern Syria. Fox News reports that the U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle engaged an armed Shaheed-129 UAV displaying "hostile intent" and advancing on coalition forces.

The F-15 intercepted the UAV after it as seen advancing on a position at At Tanf where Coalition forces were training and advising partner troops in the fight against ISIS. When the drone did not alter its course, it was destroyed by the F-15.

On June 8, another pro-regime drone was shot down in the same location after it dropped munitions near Coalition forces.

The incident follows one on Sunday in which an F/A-18 Super Hornet shot down a Syrian Air Force SU-22 fighter jet that U.S. officials said had dropped bombs near Syrian Democratic Forces.
