Unison Industries
announced at the annual AOPA Expo, the launch of its new Autolite
XL Fine Wire Aviation Spark Plugs. The new Autolite XL Fine Wire
Aviation Spark Plugs extend Unison's general aviation (GA) spark
plug offerings beyond its massive electrode Autolite Aviation Spark
Plugs, which have been in the market for many years. Production of
both plug types, massive and fine wire, enhances Unison's ability
to offer customers one of the broadest, GA ignition system product
lines on the market today.
The new Autolite XL Fine Wire Aviation Spark Plugs were designed
with spark performance, long life and total customer value in mind.
The Autolite XL spark plug utilizes a pedestal mount for the welded
side wire electrode, resulting in a projected gap design that
provides a less shielded spark for improved combustion. To extend
spark plug life, the Autolite XL plug contains iridium material in
both the side wire electrode and the center electrode tip, as well
as Unison's proprietary glass seal and integral resistor. A similar
design is used in Unison's massive electrode Autolite spark plugs,
which maintains an excellent stable resistance value throughout the
life of the spark plug and is an essential part of extended spark
plug life.
Based on today's prices, Unison says that the Autolite XL Fine
Wire Aviation Spark Plugs will have a list price of approximately
thirty percent below the competitor's fine wire product and still
provide the long life expected from an iridium fine wire spark
plug. Despite their low price, no performance details were
compromised. For instance, the Autolite XL Fine Wire Aviation Spark
Plugs come standard with a high temperature black paint applied
over nickel plating; additional corrosion protection for no extra
cost and less maintenance over the spark plug's life.
"For years, Unison's Autolite Aviation Spark Plugs have offered
customers advanced reliability and cost effectiveness," says
Zouheir Abdelnour, Unison's ignition systems product line manager.
"Now our customers can enjoy the same reliable performance of a
massive Autolite spark plug with the added benefits of an iridium
fine wire design. These benefits include much longer life,
electrodes impervious to lead attack, improved scavenging, and
projected gap performance at a price more aircraft owners, aircraft
technicians, and engine maintenance facilities can afford. The
value is so good, I believe many massive electrode users will find
it easy to trade up to Unison's Autolite XL Fine Wire Aviation
Spark Plugs."
Unison expects to begin shipment of its Autolite XL Fine Wire
Aviation Spark Plugs from its factory in Rockford, Illinois in the
first quarter of 2005. A total of five part numbers (URHB36S,
UREB36S, URHB32S, UREM38S, and URHM38S) will be available through
Unison's worldwide distributor network. Customers can purchase the
product individually (minimums may apply, check with a Unison
distributor), in convenient four or twelve pack packaging, or as
part of a Slick Ignition Upgrade Kit. These cost-effective kits
consist of a complete set of Slick Magnetos, a Slick Harness and a
complete set of Autolite Aviation Spark Plugs. Installation and
maintenance instructions for the Autolite XL Fine Wire Aviation
Spark Plugs are also available in Unison's newly revised
maintenance publication called, Autolite Aviation Spark Plugs
Installation and Maintenance Manual, document number L-1710.
Unison's Autolite Aviation Spark Plugs are FAA-PMA approved for
most GA piston engines. They are also ideally suited for many
experimental engines flying today.
