EAA’s Camp Scholler: A Home Away From Home for Thousands
of Guests
As EAA AirVenture 2005, the World’s Greatest Aviation
Celebration, offers an unforgettable year of activities, airplanes
and personalities, one of the event’s grandest
traditions—camping at Camp Scholler or adjacent to the flight
line—will again create a new “aviation city” at
Wittman Regional Airport on July 25-31.
Tens of thousands of people enjoy the unique camaraderie at
EAA’s Camp Scholler drive-in campground each year. This
camping area, along with the fly-in camping areas for aircraft,
creates a scene matched by few other conventions. EAA members and
their guests from around the world come together in a community of
those with a passion for flying. Many people have set up camp on
the EAA grounds each year for more than two decades, developing
lifelong friendships and priceless memories.
“While EAA AirVenture
participants stay in hotels throughout the region, as well as
college dormitories and private housing, many people believe that
camping at EAA AirVenture is the best way to get the real flavor of
the event,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA President and AirVenture
Chairman. “After a busy day on the flight line at Oshkosh,
those who camp on-site find that they make friends and share
memories around a campfire or cookout. Their experience becomes
even more memorable as part of this aviation-minded community that
springs up at Oshkosh.”
Camping is also an inexpensive way to enjoy EAA AirVenture,
whether you bring a tent, pull-along camper or motorhome. Rates are
just $18 per day for each camp space, and open to any EAA member
and their guests. Camping areas officially open on Friday, June 24,
with sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, and
plenty of room to welcome all AirVenture participants.
