Skydiver Fatally Injured In Midair Collision

Impacted Second Jumper Shortly After Exiting The Airplane Over Polk County, GA

A skydiver was fatally injured after colliding with another jumper on Saturday over Polk County, GA.

The fatally injured jumper was identified as Donald Bragg, 28 of Marietta, GA. A second skydiver was injured in the collision.

According to BlueSkyMag.com, Bragg was going to video two other jumpers performing a maneuver called a "Mr. Bill", that involves one jumper holding on the the harness of a second while the second deploys his main chute. Later, the first jumper lets go and lands under his own canopy.

The online magazine reports that as best as they can reconstruct the scenario, the two skydivers attempting the maneuver were not able to execute it fully, and one of the chutes deployed just under Bragg. He attempted to deploy his own parachute, but could not do so in time to avoid hitting the canopy and then the other jumper. Both were reportedly knocked unconscious by the collision. The magazine reports that it is possible that Bragg was fatally injured in the collision, but his reserve parachute deployed.

The other jumper was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He is expected to recover fully.

The accident remains under investigation.
