WAI To Unveil Julie Clark Biography

Book Scheduled For Release At 15th Annual Conference

Women in Aviation, International will unveil its first published biography at this year’s 15th Annual Women in Aviation, International Conference, to be held at the Reno Hilton March 11-13. The book, Nothing Stood in Her Way, by Capt. Julie Clark with noted biographer Ann Lewis Cooper, tracks Clark’s 35-year career in the U.S. skies from Flight Attendant to Airline Captain and air show celebrity.

Suddenly orphaned as a young high school student, Clark surmounted this crushing reality and built two successful careers, as an airline captain and an air show celebrity. When she first took to the skies, the vision of a small and shapely blond at the controls of a jet airliner was fare for the comic strips. Clark, and other aviators like her have opened doors to coveted careers previously closed to women.

She’s flown in and with a number of airlines and aircraft, through a series of mergers and acquisitions, and endured. Simultaneously, Clark was flying aerobatics in her personally restored T-34 Mentor and in close formation with other warbird owners in her bright yellow North American T-28 Trojan.

WAI says biographer Ann Lewis Cooper focuses on Clark’s strengths, without avoiding the rough spots. "She tells it like it was -- and is -- and has written a biography that captures the reader. This story is a “must read” for all who admire courage and determination," the organization said in a press release. The book is available at Cooper Books, booth 927, in the Women in Aviation, International Conference exhibition hall.
