Ryanair Pilots Vote To Strike July 12

More Strikes Threatened As The Summer Continues

A group of pilots flying for Ryanair in Ireland have voted to stop working on July 12 in a dispute over arrangement for transferring flights between European and African bases. Seniority and annual leave arrangements were also in dispute.

The U.K. newspaper The Independent report that the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association (IALPA) said in its request for negotiations on the issue "had been met with a threat to move Dublin-based aircraft and pilots to other airports and cut promotion opportunities."

The union sought a vote among 95 pilots directly employed by Ryanair. Only one pilot voted to stay on the job.

Ryanair only recognized trade unions in December, 2017. Along with the 95 pilots directly employed by the carrier in Ireland, there are about 200 more on personal services contracts, according to the report.

IALPA said it remains "available and willing to engage" on the disputed issues.

Ryanair pilots in Germany are being polled by the Vereinigung Cockpit union over similar pay and workload issues.
