Will Give Cancer Patients A Needed "Lift"
RehabCare Group, Inc. announced this
week its participation in the Corporate Angel Network, a non-profit
organization that arranges free travel on corporate jets for cancer
patients seeking treatment. More than 500 US companies currently
participate in the Network, which has transported over 25,000
patients in its 26 years.
"We are privileged to be able to support what has become such a
valuable service for so many people," said John H. Short, Ph.D.,
RehabCare President and Chief Executive Officer. "Many of our
rehabilitation patients are battling cancer, so we know firsthand
what a physical, emotional and financial strain it can be for them
and their families. Travel costs should never have to deter a
cancer patient from receiving potentially life-saving
treatment."
Each week, the company will provide the flight schedule for its
corporate jet, along with the number of available seats, to the
Corporate Angel Network. The Network acts as a liaison with the
cancer patients... matching requests, overseeing flight details and
arranging ground transportation.
"This is an opportunity for us to put available corporate
resources to use for a worthwhile cause," said Dr. Short.
The announcement to join the Corporate Angel Network comes
midway through RehabCare’s Year of Caring. The company
designated 2007 its "Year of Caring" to coincide with its 25th
anniversary, adopting one charitable organization to support each
quarter. The charities were selected through a survey of a cross
section of employees.
"Our Year of Caring has been a great teambuilding, educational
and rewarding experience for all of us," he commented.
