Honors CASA Flying Operations Inspector Stephen Guerin
A special scholarship has been launched to honor the memory of Civil Aviation Safety Authority flying operations inspector Stephen Guerin. Stephen lost his life in an aircraft accident in South Australia in May 2017.
He was observing a check flight being conducted by an air operator as part of routine safety work undertaken by CASA when the aircraft crashed near Renmark. The accident took the lives of two other pilots on board.
The new $15,000 a year scholarship is being offered to current and aspiring professional pilots in South Australia. The scholarship program will run for three years and is open to pilots studying for a commercial pilot licence or higher qualifications.
CASA's CEO and Director of Aviation Safety Shane Carmody said the scholarship was an important tribute to the commitment to aviation safety shown by Stephen Guerin. "Stephen Guerin was passionate about aviation, meticulous about safety and widely respected," Mr Carmody said. "He is a great role model for the next generation of South Australia's professional pilots.
"The people who win this scholarship will have demonstrated a commitment to achieving the highest personal and professional standards in aviation."
People interested in applying for the scholarship should fill out an online form and provide supporting material. Applicants must reside in South Australia.
Applications for the 2018 scholarship will be accepted through June 29. Scholarships will also be awarded in 2019 and 2020.
