Aerial Photographers Released Without Charges

Aviate, Navigate, Communicate

A twin-engine Aero Commander was intercepted Thursday afternoon by F-15s after approaching restricted airspace near Edwards Air Force Base. The aircraft flew for several hours over Antelope Valley Thursday afternoon, at an altitude of about 18,000 feet and the pilots were not talking to ATC.

After they approached restricted airspace several times, the FAA notified Western Air Defense, according to Donn Walker, an FAA spokesman speaking to the LA Daily News.

The aircraft was escorted to the Palmdale Airport where the men were taken into custody.

After spending about five hours with the local FBI, it was determined that the men's story was legitimate, and they were released.

The men were taking aerial photographs for a Northern California real estate company. No word on whether they got any close-ups of the F-15s.
