ERAU Announces Plans In Advance Of Hurricane Dorian

Daytona Beach Campus And Worldwide HQ Will Be Closed From 5:00 p.m. ET Friday through 5:00 p.m. ET Wednesday

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will close its Daytona Beach Campus, Worldwide headquarters campus located in Daytona Beach, and Orlando- and Space Coast-based campuses beginning at 5:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, to ensure that faculty, staff and students can plan for a safe, orderly evacuation as Hurricane Dorian approaches Florida’s east coast early next week.

The campuses will remain closed until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

A mandatory evacuation, including residence halls, will be in place by 5:00 p.m. ET Saturday, Aug. 31. After the evacuation, only essential personnel will be allowed on campus, with no exceptions. All classes and campus activities scheduled to take place during the closure are officially cancelled.

Additional information will be provided prior to reopening the campus. Please look for updates at approximately 3:00 pm ET every day.

The University is also closely monitoring all of its Worldwide Campus locations that may be within Hurricane Dorian’s path.

For on-campus students, residence halls will remain open until the mandatory evacuation time at 5:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, and dining services will be provided to students until area shelters, as designated by Volusia County Emergency Management, are available to accommodate them.

For students who are unable to evacuate, Embry-Riddle will help them identify, and provide transportation to shelters designated by Volusia County. Information meetings for students will take place in all residence halls. Specially trained Embry-Riddle student shelter captains will remain with any students who evacuate to a shelter.

Students residing in residence halls are urged to let the Embry-Riddle Office of Housing and Residence Life know their whereabouts and evacuation plans as soon as possible. Students can update their evacuation plans by logging onto the Hurricane Preparation website on the University intranet (ERNIE). Students can also communicate with their Resident Advisors.

All students, both on- and off-campus, are urged to let their families know their evacuation plan as soon as possible, and stay in close contact with loved ones.
