Maryland Drone Operator Finds Man Missing For Five Days

Was Part Of A Volunteer Search Party Looking For The man

A Maryland man who had been missing for five days was found alive by a drone operator working as part of a search team.

The New York Daily News reports that the missing person was Jason Blake Mabee, 44 (pictured). He is described as an "avid athlete" who had left his Ellicott City, MD home five days earlier without his cell phone or wallet, according to police.

The drone operator was identified as Julian Bustos. He said he joined the search team because his kids and Mabee's are in the same pre-K class. According to the paper, his drone had been in the air only a few minutes when he spotted Mabee at the bottom of a "very steep hill."

According to a Howard County, MD news release posted on Facebook, Police were in the area assisting a volunteer search party when a member with a personal drone located Mabee in a densely wooded area near the intersection of Presbyterian Circle and Route 108 just after 12:30 p.m. Officers immediately made their way to Mabee, who was conscious, but injured. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Mabee’s family initially filed a missing person report the morning of July 23 after becoming concerned about his welfare. Throughout the week, police checked hospitals and shelters, local parks and areas he was known to frequent.

Preliminarily police have found no indications of foul play.
