Sporty's Continues Ornament-al Holiday Tradition

2022 Tree Ornament Features the Legendary Ercoupe

Everyone's favorite funky vintage plane receives some recognition this year with Sporty's Crystal Christmas Ornament, allowing actual or aspiring Ercoupe pilots to celebrate the life of aviation's surprisingly enduring safety plane.

The Ercoupe, produced from 1940 to 1969, remains a fixture of ramps across the country, soldiering on with its characteristic low wing and twin-rudder tail while offering pilots a rudderless, "unspinnable" aircraft. Today, the "World's Safest Plane" (ad-speak, your mileage may vary) continues to soldier on, making appearances around the country surprisingly likely given its impressive 5,600-unit production run. The quirky plane will likely stick around for years to come, in any case, an enduring legacy for an unorthodox aircraft.

This year marks the 38th ornament in the Sporty's series, boxed for gift giving through the company's regular catalog of products. Sporty's turned 61 this year after having grown from Hal Shever's one-man operation to a now ubiquitous aviation brand. Operations in recent years have expanded to most facets of general aviation, with the company offering support in airport management, avionics installation, aircraft sales, maintenance, charter services, and flight training through their Ohio base. Clermont County Airport - also known to some as Sporty's Airport, is also home to the firm's thriving aviation community, an appropriate home given the Buckeye state's stature as a fixture of aviation itself.
