Five Fatally Injured In Brazilian Helicopter Accident

One Was Son Of The State Of Sao Paulo Governor

A Eurocopter EC-155 B1 helicopter went down Thursday in a residential neighborhood in Carapicuiba near Sao Paulo, Brazil, resulting in the fatal injury of the five people on board the aircraft. One was reported to be Thomaz Rodrigues Alckmin, the youngest son of the state governor, Geraldo Alckmin.

Deutsche Welle reports that the State of Sao Paulo confirmed That Thomaz Alckmin was among those fatally injured in a statement released Friday.

The aircraft reportedly impacted a building that was still under construction. No one on the ground was injured in the accident.

Carapicuiba is on the outskirts of the city of Sao Paulo. The U.K. Daily Mail reports that Carlos Isquerdo, a friend of Thomaz Alckmin, was the pilot of the aircraft. Local media reported that the aircraft was being flight tested after its main rotor blade was changed. Three mechanics were also on board the aircraft.

Deutsche Welle reports that it was not known who was actually flying the helo when it went down.
