AIAA Announces 2007 Spotlight Award Winners

Will Be Honored At May Banquet

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) told ANN Thursday the recipients of the 2007 Aerospace Spotlight Awards. This year's honorees include NASA Administrator Michael Griffin, and Aloha Airgroup Chairman Gordon Bethune.

Presentation of the awards will take place at the Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, Washington, DC.

  • AIAA Foundation Award for Excellence -- Gordon Bethune, chairman of the board, Aloha Airgroup, Inc., Honolulu, HI
  • Daniel Guggenheim Medal – Robert Loewy, William T. Oakes professor and chair of the
    Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta,
    GA
  • Distinguished Service Award – William W. Vaughan, research professor, University of
    Alabama in Huntsville, Huntsville, AL
  • Goddard Astronautics Award – Michael D. Griffin, NASA Administrator, Washington, DC.
  • International Cooperation Award – Graham Gibbs, counselor for space affairs, Canadian Space Agency, Canadian Embassy, Washington, DC
