Airborne 06.28.19: FAA Reminder, Fokker Crash Test, Hang Glider XC

The FAA is reminding general aviation operators taking advantage of the agency’s Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) rebate program that rebate reservations must be made within 90 days of the installation of the appropriate equipment.

If the 90 days passes without a reservation being made, the rebate expires and will be made available to others. The FAA last month issued the last of 20,000 $500 rebate reservations offered to general aviation aircraft owners. The FAA and NASA performed a crashworthiness test on a Fokker F28 aircraft at the Landing and Impact Research Facility at NASA’s Langley Research Facility in Hampton, VA. The Fokker F28 is a regional jet that is used on short to medium-haul flights. A crashworthiness test was conducted to advance safety research on the structural performance of this style, design and materials for this size of aircraft. A Scottish-born hang glider pilot has embarked on a journey from south Texas to the Canadian border in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer. Pilot Robin Hamilton lives in Houston. He departed last week from West Houston Airport and headed north. Hamilton chose to raise awareness for breast cancer with the flight because he lost his mother to the disease when he was 13. He has partnered with the Susan G. Komen foundation for his challenging flight. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
