ERAU Can Test for ETC and FAA Certs

Embry-Riddle Aviation Maintenance Technology Program Authorized to Conduct Examinations

Federal Communication Commission and electronic technician certification examinations can now be administered by Embry-Riddle staff.

Neill Fulbright and Glen Travis of the university's Avionics Line Maintenance program have been designated by the Electronics Technicians Association International (ETAI) to handle FCC and ETAI certifications.

The FCC certification includes all nine aviation elements. Examples are: General Radiotelephone Operator license, Global Marine Distress and Safety Systems Maintainer license, Marine Radio Operator permit, Marine Radiotelegraph Operators certificate, and Radar Endorsement.

The ETAI Specialty certifications include a basic electronics apprentice examination for persons with less than two years field experience. There are also certifications at the Journeyman level available in avionics, biomedical, consumer, telecommunication and wireless electronics. Senior and Master level awards are for those who complete certification in more than one area.

"The Avionics Line Maintenance program provides airframe and powerplant technicians actual hands-on training in a 400-plus hour curriculum," said Fred Mirgle, manager of the Aircraft Maintenance and Technology department at Embry-Riddle. "The subject areas involve all phases of wiring, system dynamics and troubleshooting of general aviation, corporate and air transport aircraft."
