Indra Delivers Helicopter Simulator For U.S. Police Training

Company Says The Simulator Is The Most Technologically Advanced System Available For Single-Engine Helicopters

Spanish IT Company Indra has delivered an advanced full-motion simulator of the AS350 helicopter to American Eurocopter. The AS350 is the most widely employed surveillance helicopter in the U.S., with over 750 units in use by police forces across the nation. In announcing the delivery Thursday, Indra said it had designed, built, and installed the system at the aircraft manufacturer's training center in Dallas, TX.

Indra was awarded the AS350 simulator contract after delivering the EC135 and EC145 training device to American Eurocopter. The aircraft manufacturer's satisfaction with Indra's solutions is reflected in their continued use of Indra to fulfill their simulation requirements.

American Eurocopter's training requirements have led Indra to develop the most advanced simulator in the world for single-engine helicopters. It provides the highest fidelity solution available in the U.S. for training in civil environments. Pilots are able to practice typical high-workload police operations in urban areas, such as ground crew support or surveillance of suspicious vehicles, as well as contact and coordination with the command post.

The avionics and navigation systems of the simulator are identical to those of the helicopter. The visual system presents highly detailed scenes and a 210 degree field of view. Because the helicopter is operated at low altitudes, a strong emphasis is placed on the accurate reproduction of streets and buildings. The training device also supports all weather conditions and night vision.
