Delta Suspends FA Blog Star For Posing In Uniform
It's not like Ellen Simonetti was
posing naked. But after she posed for pictures published on her
blog site, the Queen of Sky was told by Delta Airlines to get thee
out -- suspended indefinitely without pay.
"I never meant it as something to harm my company and don't
understand how they think it did harm them," Simonetti told the
BBC.
The site is a fictionalized diary of a flight attendant. It
chronicles the Queen's supposed journeys from hub to hub.
Ironically, Simonetti had gone out of her way to make sure nothing
from the blog site would come back to haunt Delta. The Q of S as
she's called in blogging shorthand works not for Delta, but for
Anonymous Airlines. She's based in Quirksville (TX). Nothing about
Delta. Nothing about Delta's hometown -- Atlanta (GA).
And there's no nudity, no steam-up-the-hard-drive sex -- it's
all just tongue-in-cheek humor. For instance, try a few of the
Queen's 20 questions:
- An anonymous member asks:
"Ciao from Italy. Dear Ellen, I understand Delta somehow...they
didn`t want you to show their horrible uniform. Tell Delta to take
inspiration from Skyteam`s Air France and Alitalia glamorous
uniforms! I wish you good luck and enjoy!"
- QueenofSky replies:
I wish they would, Barbara! Thanks!
Or try this:
- An anonymous member asks:
"I assume I travel quite a bit on AA (assumption is that I travel
on AA, not that I travel a lot), why are all of my FAs so
unattractive when you are so very good looking!?"
- QueenofSky replies:
Because Anonymous Airlines FIRES or INDEFINITELY SUSPENDS all of
its good looking flight attendants :( They prefer them fat and
ugly.
Delta suspended Simonette a month ago, an action she's now
appealed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
"I was really shocked, I had no warning," she said. "I never
thought I would get in trouble because of the blog. I thought if
they had a problem, someone would have said something before taking
action."
So what about the 10 or so pictures Simonetti posed for made
Delta angry? BBC Online reports only one of those pictures even
showed her Delta wings. The Queen of Sky doesn't think the issue
was pictures.
"This blogging thing is obviously a new problem for employers,"
she said, "and they need to get a policy about it. If I had known
it would cost me my job, I would not have done that."
