San Diego Healthcare Executive Turns Love Of Flying Into
Community Service
As founder and CEO of Millennium
Laboratories, Jim Slattery helps people in pain through the doctors
and healthcare staff that serve people with chronic pain.
Millennium Laboratories provides therapeutic drug monitoring,
education and research to the pain management industry. Now, Jim is
combining two of his passions - helping people in need and his love
of flying - by becoming a pilot with Angel Flight West.
James Slattery's career reflects his commitment to helping
others and to community service. He has been a police officer and
held office in Massachusetts for eight years as the State
Commissioner of Aeronautics. "My love of aviation and experience as
a pilot for over 30 years drew me to Angel Flight West," said
Slattery (below, right).
Angel Flight West is a volunteer,
non-profit organization dedicated to easing long-distance air
transportation burdens during personal and community crisis. The
organization links both volunteer private pilots and commercial
airline partners with people in need whose non-emergency health
care problems require that they travel to and from medical
facilities throughout the 13 western states, including Alaska and
Hawaii. The costs of all flights are donated and there is never a
charge for an Angel Flight West mission.
"At Millennium Laboratories, we look for ways to serve our
community with the same care and concern with which we serve our
network of pain physicians," Slattery explained. "Angel Flight West
is our official Millennium Laboratories charity. All employees are
encouraged to join. So far, we have seven pilots and four Mission
Assistants registered." Jim has joined the established Southern
California AFW chapter with Southern California Wing Leader Vince
Giampa. Flight hours and use of an airplane for Angel Flight
missions are donated personally by Slattery.
"All the volunteers working with Angel Flight West give
generously of their time and resources," added Slattery. "Helping
someone seriously ill get to the far-off help they need is the best
reason to fly. I am proud to have the opportunity to be a part of
it."
