Twin Commander Owners, Operators Attend Tenth University

More Than Fifteen Sessions Dealing With Topics Ranging From Tax Regs To NEXRAD

A six-hour class on airborne weather radar theory and tactics. A two-hour session on using NEXRAD data-link weather to better advantage. Ninety minutes on GPS tips and tricks. Two hours of operational insight on the Honeywell TPE331 engine. An hour-long panel session featuring flying tips from experienced pilots. A tax consultant's take on the state of estate tax regulations. An insurance expert's view of the current market. Those were just some of the more than 15 seminar sessions packed into the recent Twin Commander University.

A biennial conference for Twin Commander owners and operators as well as factory authorized service centers and partner product and service providers, the 2011 University took place at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs on Florida's Southwest coast. It attracted 84 owners, operators, and guests from Japan, New Zealand, Mexico, and Puerto Rico as well as from all over the U.S.

"There's a reason it's called the University," said Twin Commander Aircraft President Matt Isley. "It's about learning. We had three days of information-rich seminars for both turboprop and piston owners and operators on a mix of popular and fresh topics. We covered a variety of interests ranging from hands-on piloting sessions and engine upgrades to engineering initiatives and insurance and tax concerns. And the bonus-no final exam!" he said.

"Along with the great education we enjoyed a spectacular evening at the African safari-themed Ngala Preserve in Naples; we had at least 22 Twin Commanders arrive at Naples Jet Center, the host service center for the University; and everyone made lots of new Twin Commander friends," Isley added. "This was our tenth University, and based on the survey responses from participants it may have been the most successful yet."

In addition to the long list of seminars geared to owners and operators, FlightSafety International presented an aircraft familiarization seminar called "Right-Seat Responders" for spouses and companions of Twin Commander pilots.

Isley announced that the 2013 Twin Commander University will return to Scottsdsale, Arizona, where it was held in 2009 and several times previously.
