Two Fatally Injured In T-28C Trojan Accident

Rand Construction Corp. President Jon Couch Was Flying The Airplane

The president of Rand Construction was fatally injured Friday along with a passenger in his T-28C Trojan airplane when it went down near the Virginia International Raceway in Alton in the southern part of the state.

State police confirmed that Couch, 46, was the pilot of the aircraft. His passenger was his mother, Frances Gene Couch, age 72.

Couch was reportedly attempting some "aerobatic maneuvers", according to a report in the Washington Business Journal. The Virginia State Police said in a statement that "according to witness accounts, the plane was flying low over the field just prior to the crash. No one on the ground was injured."

The Annapolis, MD resident was known for his interest in extreme sports, and his motorcycle racing team, TOBC, was preparing for a weekend event at the speedway, according to the paper.

Couch had been with Rand, a general contractor based in Washington, D.C., for more than 18 years.
